Ko Samet from Pattaya: choose a beach and plan the stay
Plan Ko Samet around your beach, accommodation and mainland connection, with clear questions to ask before booking.
Choose the beach before the room
Ko Samet, also written Koh Samet, offers several distinct beach areas. The Tourism Authority of Thailand lists Hat Sai Kaew, Ao Wong Duean and Ao Phrao among them. Use those names to narrow an accommodation search rather than treating every property on the island as equivalent.
Think about your intended routine: time on the beach, meals nearby, evenings out or quiet rest. Ask how the room connects to the beach and where vehicles or boats can drop you. An attractive photograph does not show the steps, slopes or distance involved in carrying luggage to your particular room.
Organise the island arrival with the accommodation
Before buying a transfer, ask the property which arrival point is appropriate and how to complete the final leg. Get the meeting location and any extra charge in writing. If the room is advertised with a transfer, clarify whether that includes the road journey to the mainland pier, the boat or only an island pickup.
For an independent booking, allow time between road and boat services. Keep a plan for a changed sailing or an arrival later than the accommodation’s normal reception hours. The conditions of the hotel and transport provider may differ; a cancellation by one does not automatically mean a refund from the other.
Compare the total cost of an island stay
Check the room rate alongside meals, transfers, baggage arrangements and any applicable access or park charges. Ask the provider which charges are included and which are collected separately. Do not rely on an old quoted entrance fee without checking the current official conditions for your trip.
If travelling with others, establish the room’s actual occupancy and bedding. For a short visit, the ability to store bags or change after checkout may be more useful than a minor room upgrade. For a longer stay, ask about cleaning, drinking water arrangements and access to everyday supplies.
Keep the beach plan adaptable
Choose activities around conditions on the day and follow local instructions. Reserve some unplanned time rather than tying every hour to a paid excursion. Protect the return connection by leaving a margin before an important onward journey.
Keep the island tidy, use shared resources thoughtfully and ask permission before photographing people. A good trip does not require collecting every beach name; spending time in an area that suits you can be more enjoyable than repeated transfers.
- Choose the beach and exact room location.
- Confirm the mainland pier and island pickup.
- Separate hotel, transfer and access charges.
- Read cancellation rules for each provider.
- Allow flexibility before returning to the mainland.
Rayong and the Ko Samet connection
If starting in Rayong, clarify the exact pickup and mainland pier rather than assuming that a city drop-off includes the boat. Ask the accommodation which island arrival point suits it. Compare the complete connection and cancellation conditions, especially when booking road and sea services separately.
